Rules of thumb, not dogma.

Oral airway

Have time? Place the airway on the side of the face. The tip of the airway should be at or just beyond the angle of the jaw. Insert upside down and rotate 180° as you insert.

• Yellow = 90 mm (good general choice)
• Red = 100 mm (larger males)
• Green = 80 mm (smaller females)

Nasal airway

Place the airway on the side of the face. It should be from about the edge of nostril to the tragus of the ear.

• 7 mm (good for most people)
• 6 mm (smaller females)
• 8 mm (larger males)

I/O access

After inserting to bone, 1 black line should still be visible before drilling.

• Blue = 25 mm (most cases)
• Yellow = 45 mm (proximal humerus, very obese)
• Pink = 15 mm (peds)

Seizure

• Midazolam 5-10 mg IV or IM (Versed; best IM choice)
• Lorazepam 2-8 mg IV (Ativan)
• Diazepam 5-10 mg IV (Valium; do not give intramuscular)
